CHIROPRACTOR & ART® AT FORM & FUNCTION MARKHAM

WHAT DO CHIROPRACTORS DO?

Chiropractors are spine, muscle, joint and related nervous system experts.

Their focus on these areas allows them to provide holistic care aimed at improving overall well-being. With their thorough understanding of musculoskeletal and neurological systems, chiropractors can assess, diagnose, and develop personalized treatment plans tailored to individual needs and preferences.

WHAT ARE SOME CHIROPRACTIC TREATMENTS?

Chiropractors at Form & Function Markham use various treatments, depending on their patient’s specific needs and preferences. Common treatments include: Manual, ‘hands-on’ therapy, technology modalities, such as therapeutic ultrasound, shockwave, laser therapy Customized, therapeutic exercise programs, and Patient Education.

WHAT IS MANUAL MANIPULATION?

One of the most frequent treatments a chiropractor uses is manual manipulation of the vertebrae of your spine or other joints, which is called an ‘adjustment.’ To perform an adjustment, your chiropractor will use their hands to apply controlled force to your joint and guide it through a range of motion. This action restores your joint’s natural movement and improves its function.

When applied to your spine, this treatment is called spinal manipulation therapy. Manipulation is also used on other joints, such as those in your wrist, ankle or foot, as an effective treatment.

WHAT MAKES CHIROPRACTIC CARE DIFFERENT AT FORM & FUNCTION?

Form & Function incorporates ART (Active Release Technique) into our treatments.

ART® – Active Release Technique is a specific, state of the art system of diagnosis and manual treatment for soft tissue disorders. ART® is a patented system that treats problems arising from muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerve as a result of direct traumatic injuries, repetitive strain injuries, postural strain, sports specific injuries and day-to-day stresses from the work place.

THE SCIENCE OF ART®

When muscle, fascia or other soft tissue are put under acute traumatic stress, micro-trauma or reduced oxygen state— scar tissue forms.  Scar tissue is dense irregular bundles of inefficient tissue that binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become inefficient and weaker, while tendons become irritated, which can result in tendinitis and entrapping the free movement of healthy nerves. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength and pain.

ART® works by releasing the level of restriction and scar tissue formation that has formed as a result of injury, overuse or even postural or ergonomic imbalances.  The tissues are worked to fix injuries within muscles, tendons, ligaments, and between nerves to allow for improved tissue texture, tension, movement, form and function.
